MVA Oncology network meeting

MVA Oncology network

Last Monday we joined the MVA Oncology network meeting in Medicon Village. The network focuses on best practices, experience and current challenges for public-private collaboration and the commercialisation of oncology-related R&D in the Medicon Valley region.

The event was very well attended with an almost full conference hall. The main presentation was from Genmab, who gave a very inspiring talk about how the company has successfully become one of the major companies in the EU for immunotherapy with new focused strategies. It was impressive to learn how much the company has increased its stock value. The company has a sole focus on antibody therapeutics for the treatment of cancer, which has contributed to its success. Another important factor has been networking with the big pharma industry, this has been important in reducing Genumab’s own costs tremendously. It was striking to learn that the company still only has 200 employees with a cash flow of more than 550 million USD.

We enjoyed the evening with a few more good presentations from companies such as SAGA Diagnostics, CLS AB, Oncology Venture, Bioneer, Hølberg, and CREATE health, to mention a few. It was very positive to hear from Professor Nils Brünner, from the University of Copenhagen, who talked about the benefits of having focused cancer hubs in the region. The event then ended with some thoughts about future collaborations and network meetings in March and May which we will be sure to attend.
